Pricing
Carpet installation through Flooring Xpress starts around $2.49 per square foot installed. That price covers the carpet, an 8-pound pad (we throw the pad in free with any carpet order), tack strip, and labor. A typical 12x15 bedroom lands between $450 and $700 depending on the line you choose. We are an authorized Shaw and Mohawk dealer, and prices move up when you go into pet-friendly stain-resistant fibers, premium memory-foam pads, or patterned Berbers. The honest way to lock a real number is the free shop-at-home visit. Solo brings samples to your place so you see them in your actual lighting and writes a flat quote you can hold us to. We also beat any written price on equivalent products, so if you have a competing estimate, send it over.
LVP installations from Flooring Xpress start around $3.49 per square foot installed. That covers the planks, underlayment when the manufacturer requires it, transitions, and labor. The per-foot price moves with plank thickness, wear-layer mil rating, and how premium a look you want. A 200-square-foot kitchen typically lands between $700 and $1,400 fully installed. Subfloor leveling or tile demo is priced separately so you see exactly where every dollar goes. As a Shaw dealer we carry their full LVP catalog. Free delivery on all materials, and Solo will bring samples to the home visit so you can see how the plank reads against your cabinets and wall color before you commit.
Hardwood starts around $5.99 per square foot installed for engineered oak and goes up from there with solid plank, exotic species like Brazilian cherry, and wider plank widths. Refinishing existing hardwood usually runs $3 to $5 per square foot depending on stain choice and how many coats of finish you want. As a Shaw dealer we carry their solid and engineered hardwood lines. The variables are the species, the plank width, the finish, and whether the subfloor needs work. The home visit is the only honest way to give you a real number. We bring stained samples and unfinished blanks so you can see how the wood reads in your light at different times of day.
Tile starts around $7 per square foot installed for floors and a bit more for showers and backsplashes because of waterproofing and the cuts involved. We are an exclusive Daltile dealer in the Chicago area, which means we carry their full porcelain, ceramic, and natural stone catalog at dealer pricing. A typical 60-square-foot bathroom floor lands between $500 and $900 installed. Custom shower tile with niches, accent strips, or curbless drains adds time and skill. Solo brings tile samples and grout chips on the home visit so you can lay them next to your fixtures before you commit. Demo of existing tile is priced separately so the line items are clear.
Process
Simple: you call or fill out the form, Solo books a time that works for you, and he drives the showroom to your front door. He brings carpet samples, LVP planks, hardwood blanks, tile chips, and grout swatches you can hold against your cabinets, wall color, and natural light. Samples that look great in a fluorescent showroom often read totally different in a kitchen at 4pm — the home visit fixes that. Solo measures while he is there, talks through the prep work the room needs, and writes you a flat quote on the spot. No showroom trip. No high-pressure sales. The visit is free whether or not you book the job.
Whatever you want. If you call ahead and tell us you are looking at carpet for a bedroom, Solo curates the sample case to that — different textures, different pile heights, different price points. If you want to see LVP for a basement remodel, he brings waterproof options with thicker wear layers. For tile, he brings Daltile chips in the colorways and sizes you mentioned plus a few he thinks might surprise you. The case fits in his vehicle so he can swap and adjust on the visit. The whole point is to take the showroom out of the equation — you should not have to drive somewhere or imagine how something will look.
Usually within two to three days during the busy season and same-week year-round. Mornings, afternoons, and Saturday slots are all open. Solo runs the visits himself, so the calendar reflects his availability. If you need it sooner because you are closing on a house or your carpet just got destroyed by a leak, text us and we will see what we can do. Most jobs go from first call to installed floor in two to three weeks depending on material lead time. Stocked carpet and LVP can install within a week of the visit. Special-order hardwood and tile run two to four weeks.
Yes — make-ready bundles are one of our biggest growth segments. Vacancy turns are time-sensitive: every day a unit is empty is rent you are not collecting. We do high-volume, high-turnaround work for property managers across the Chicago area. Carpet replacement in a one or two-bedroom unit can usually be done in a single day from sample to completed install. We carry rental-grade carpet and LVP at landlord pricing — durable, easy-clean, and priced for the math. Volume discounts apply across multiple-unit portfolios. If you manage rentals, mention it on the first call and we will quote the bundle rate.
Absolutely. We have done full-building flooring updates for property managers — carpet across an entire floor, LVP through a complete unit conversion, tile in every bathroom of a multi-unit. The economics get much better at volume because the install crew can sequence the work efficiently and the materials get delivered in a single drop. If you have a portfolio of units that all need the same product, we will quote the package rate, schedule the installs in series, and coordinate access with your property manager. This is exactly the kind of work the shop-at-home model is built for — Solo can walk multiple units in one visit.
Products
We are an authorized Shaw, Mohawk, and Daltile dealer. Shaw and Mohawk cover the carpet, LVP, and hardwood lines — between them you have hundreds of options across every price point and pet-friendly fiber technology in the industry. Daltile covers tile: porcelain, ceramic, natural stone, and the full mosaic and accent catalog. We carry their full lines at dealer pricing. If you have a brand or style in mind that we do not stock, ask anyway — the supplier network in the Chicago area is wide and we can usually source it.
Three things. First, the home visit replaces the showroom trip and the lighting guesswork — samples in your actual space, not under fluorescent panels. Second, we install everything ourselves; the big-box model contracts the install out and the crew that shows up did not write your quote and might be on their fifth job that week. Third, we are dealer-direct on Shaw, Mohawk, and Daltile, so the pricing is competitive without the upsells. Add free carpet pad, free delivery, and the price-beat guarantee, and most quotes come back tighter than the big-box numbers once you compare apples to apples.
Yes, and bathrooms are one of our specialties because of the Daltile relationship. We do full bathroom floor tile, shower walls, niches, accent strips, custom shower curbs, and curbless drains. Waterproofing is included on every wet area — we do not skip the membrane to save twenty minutes. Solo brings tile chips, grout swatches, and trim profiles to the home visit so you can lay them next to your fixtures. Cement-board prep, demo of existing tile, and shower-pan rebuild are quoted as line items on the estimate so you can see exactly what the bathroom needs.
Warranty
Two years on workmanship for every install. That covers seam failures, loose carpet, planks that cup or buckle from a bad install, tile that pops up because of inadequate prep, and any other issue that traces back to how we put the floor in. Manufacturer warranties on the materials run separately and are typically 10 to 25 years for carpet, lifetime structural for LVP, and lifetime structural for hardwood. We hand you the manufacturer paperwork at install so you have it on file. Damage from leaks, pet accidents, or moving furniture without floor protectors is not covered, but call us anyway and we will tell you straight whether it is repairable.
Call or text Solo first. Most issues — a loose carpet edge, a transition strip that came up, a plank that needs reseating — are quick fixes that we handle without a service call fee inside the workmanship window. If it is a manufacturing defect, we file the claim with Shaw, Mohawk, or Daltile on your behalf and coordinate the replacement. We do not make you chase the manufacturer ourselves. The number on the website rings to Solo directly, and the phone gets answered.
Service Area
Chicago and the surrounding suburbs — the city itself, the North Shore, the western and southwestern suburbs, plus most of DuPage and Lake counties. If you are inside roughly the I-294 belt, the visit is no charge. A bit farther out, the visit is still free, but we may schedule it on a day Solo is already in your area. If you are not sure whether your address is in our zone, just call — we can usually figure it out in 30 seconds.
Yes. We ship materials nationwide. Customers in other states or far enough outside the Chicago metro that the home visit does not pencil can still buy from us at dealer pricing. Solo will price out the project remotely, ship samples to your door, and walk you through the install considerations. You will need a local installer to do the work, but the materials side and the project planning we can absolutely handle from here. Free delivery still applies inside our delivery zone; nationwide shipping is freight-quoted.
Financing & Insurance
We accept all major payment methods — cash, check, all major credit cards through our payment provider. For larger projects, we can arrange financing through our retail partner with promotional terms (12-month no-interest is common; longer terms on bigger jobs). The application is a quick credit check and the approval comes back the same day. Solo will walk through the options on the home visit if cost is a concern. The price-beat guarantee applies whether you pay cash or finance, so you are not penalized either way.
Scheduling
A typical 1,000-square-foot carpet install is one day. LVP for the same area is one to two days depending on subfloor prep. Hardwood is two to three days because of acclimation, racking, and finish (if it is unfinished). Tile is the longest because of cure time on the mortar and grout — a bathroom floor is usually two days end-to-end with the curing window between. Solo gives you the start-to-finish timeline on the estimate so you can plan around it. We are flexible on start date and we do not leave a room half-installed overnight if we can avoid it.
